Born in Ohio and moved to Indiana in 1960, this almost makes her a Hoosier native. Her husband Bill Krieg and she will celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary this month. They have three sons, Loren, Tim and Paul. Their middle son, Tim spent two years in Korea teaching English. That was fine with them. Only when he e-mailed he was going to visit Cambodia did they start to worry. But when he sent back pictures of a beautiful and calm country they felt much better about his decision to make the trip. Sons Paul and Tim live in Columbus and Loren in Indianapolis. Bill has worked at his present place of employment for 12 years. Sharon works part time at Kohl’s and is serving as a coordinator with this year’s PIE program. PIE is a variety of educational classes offered in the fall though partnerships with other agencies and Mill Race Center. She also serves as president of the Democratic Ladies League and on the Board of Directors of Energy Matters Coalition. Sharon’s work has taken her to places such as Seattle, Alaska, and Hawaii. She was especially impressed with Alaska and Denali, which she says is a breath taking experience. For relaxation Sharon likes to read, knit, play euchre and talk to people. Sharon speaks of her volunteering at Mill Race Center giving her the opportunity to meet so many people from various backgrounds and generations.

Sharon Krieg watched her mother, Helen Gerber, participate in activities at the Senior Center in the old location of the Pump House, and realized how much the older woman enjoyed herself. It was the deciding factor that made Sharon want to become involved. From the start she was part of the Boomers Planning Group and as being one of the younger members of Mill Race Center for four years we are glad for her involvement. Sharon commented on how much more flexible Mill Race Center is than the former location, plus the beauty of the park setting and the MRC building itself. Sharon is a weekly volunteer at the reception desk who greets and gives tours and also finds time to serve on various committees.
